Privacy Policy

The short version
MagicMouseTap is a small macOS utility. We collect as little as possible: your email address when you buy the app, start a free trial, or message us. We use Stripe to take payment and never see or store your card details. We don't sell your data to anyone. You can ask us to delete your information at any time.
Who we are
This site and the MagicMouseTap app are operated by Pilas Studios LLC. For privacy questions, contact us through our contact page.
For customers in the UK and EU, we are the “data controller” for the personal data described below.
What we collect
Email address
We collect your email address in three situations:
- When you purchase the app, so we can deliver your download and provide support.
- When you start a free trial, so we can issue your download link and ensure each person receives one trial.
- When you send us a message through the contact form, so we can reply.
Purchase information
When you buy MagicMouseTap we store a record of the purchase: your email address, the amount paid, the currency, and a Stripe transaction reference. We also generate a time-limited download link tied to your purchase.
We never receive or store your card number. Payment details are collected and processed entirely by Stripe on their own systems.
Messages you send us
If you use the contact form, we store your email address and the content of your message so we can respond and keep a record of the conversation.
Analytics and advertising
We use two tools to understand how the site is performing:
- Google Ads conversion tracking, which tells us whether an advert led to a purchase. This is provided by Google and uses cookies and similar technologies set by Google.
- Faro, a lightweight analytics tool that records page views and events such as "trial started" or "purchase".
These tools collect technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device type, referring page, and the pages you visit. We use this in aggregate to see what is working, not to build a profile of you personally.
Why we use your data, and our legal basis
If you are in the UK or EU, the UK GDPR and EU GDPR require us to name a legal basis for each use of your data:
| What we do | Why | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| Deliver the app and your download link | You bought it or requested a trial | Performance of a contract |
| Reply to your support messages | You asked us a question | Legitimate interests |
| Keep records of purchases | Tax, accounting, refunds and disputes | Legal obligation |
| Send you product news and offers | To tell you about our apps | Consent, or legitimate interests where the law allows it for existing customers |
| Analytics and advertising measurement | To understand and improve the site | Consent where required, otherwise legitimate interests |
Marketing emails
We may occasionally email you about updates to MagicMouseTap or about other apps we make. We will only do this where we are permitted to:
- If you ticked the box at checkout agreeing to hear from us, we rely on that consent.
- If you bought from us and we are permitted to contact existing customers about similar products under the law that applies to you, we may email you on that basis.
Every marketing email we send includes a one-click unsubscribe link. You can also opt out at any time by messaging us through the contact page. We will action the request promptly and it is as easy to withdraw consent as it was to give it. Opting out of marketing does not stop essential emails about a purchase you have made, such as your download link or a refund confirmation.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it for anyone else's advertising. We use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf:
| Provider | What they do | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Stripe | Processes payments and stores transaction records | United States |
| Supabase | Hosts the database holding emails, purchases and messages | United States |
| Vercel | Hosts and serves this website | United States |
| Advertising conversion measurement | United States |
We may also disclose information where we are legally required to, for example in response to a valid legal request.
International transfers
We are based in the United States and our service providers store data there. If you are in the UK or EU, this means your personal data is transferred outside your country. Our providers rely on recognised safeguards for these transfers, such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK Addendum, or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
How long we keep it
- Purchase records: seven years, because tax and accounting rules require it.
- Trial records: kept while we need them to prevent repeat trials of the same app.
- Contact form messages: up to two years after your question is resolved.
- Download links: these expire 24 hours after they are issued.
- Analytics data: retained according to each provider’s standard retention settings.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask us to:
- Give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct anything that is wrong.
- Delete your data, where we are not required to keep it.
- Stop using your data for marketing. This one is absolute — we will always honour it.
- Object to or restrict certain other uses of your data.
- Receive your data in a portable format.
To exercise any of these, message us through the contact page. We will respond within one month. We will not charge you or treat you differently for asking.
If you are in the UK or EU and you think we have handled your data badly, you can complain to your national data protection authority. In the UK this is the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk). We would appreciate the chance to put things right first.
California residents: we do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA, and we have not done so in the past twelve months.
Children
MagicMouseTap is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
Traffic to this site is encrypted with HTTPS. Access to the database holding your information is restricted to the application and to us. Payment card data never touches our systems. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures appropriate to a service of this size.
Changes to this policy
If we make a material change to how we use your data, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where the change is significant, tell you by email.
